I am selling my mostly ethnographic collection (per family request). This is a nice Nogwei (Nogwi) from the Yatmul (Iatmul) tribe in Papua New Guinea, middle Sepik river. I got it on Ebay from Galleri Nimba quite a while ago with the following toetags: # 560 and what I was told from the Rudy Caesar collection who collected before 1935; and Greg Manning Galleries, lot 703, sale #802, 2/15/97. 53" tall, 8" wide, 6" thick. They were used at the end of the yam harvest in the third and... last ceremony what was reserved for the initiated people. Cowry shell eyes, hooks at the feet, surface of the body with incised can symbols.
