Most Maine license plates were made of brass in 1948, however, only a few motorists late in the year received this unusual aluminum variety. Not many survived in nice shape, as the metal surface was not properly primed, and on many of them much of the paint has flaked off. This one, by contrast, is in pretty good shape.This item is 100% All Original. I have not even attempted to clean it. The upper left mounting slot has been enlarged slightly on the left side.
