in front of President William Howard Taft and
7, 000 spectators.It was a 10 mile cross country flight from
Ft. Meyer, Virginia to Alexandria, Virginia and back
and averaging a speed of 42.583 mph....This flight completed a series of tests that concluded
in the U.S. Army purchasing the aircraft for a sum of
$30, 000, including a bonus for exceeding the required speed.It was on this aircraft that the first U.S. Army pilots learned
to fly at College Park, Maryland later that year, in October - November.The reverse, with November 22, 1909, Washington, D.C. cancellation,
has a personal note, and sent to Franklin, Kentucky.This came out a recently found photo album
and is in excellent condition, with some
cancellation ink on the front, center.{Please see photos.}
