1930 Ford Model A Car Construction Operation Repair by Victor Page This is an original 577 page, 5 1/4” x 7 5/8”, hardcover book titled The Ford Model A Car Construction–Operation–Repair. The book written by Victor Page was copyrighted in 1929 by The Norman W. Henley Publishing Co. The preface is dated April, 1929. Though the book has all the appearances of a first edition, the publicatio...n date on the title page is 1930. From the last paragraph of the author’s preface dated April, 1929 - “While extremely serviceable, the Model T did not seem to meet the requirements of a public that had become educated to the type of car that was being sold by all other builders; i.e., it did not have modern body lines nor a sliding gear transmission. The main Ford plants are now busily engaged in producing the new Model A and it is expected that by the end of 1929, there will be a very large daily output of these cars. For this reason, an entirely new volume, which describes the care and operation, as well as the main features of construction of the Ford Model A cars exclusively has been prepared. Those interested in the sale or repair of Ford products will now have available a volume describing the construction and repair of the new car that should be of benefit”. Notes in the book - All markings in the book are three brief ink written notes at the top of the otherwise blank front end page. The notes are: “To Frank in 1931” ; “To a man who knows “Fords” as “Knute” knew football” signed “Marie” ; “To help you over life’s “highs” and “lows” as you have helped many” signed “Bill”. Condition - There are numerous illustrations including several photographic picture illustrations of vintage Ford Model A’s in the book. The book is clean, complete and tightly bound. The red colored cover cloth with black front cover and black spine edge print is unfaded. In most aspects the book is in very good condition but there are the following condition defects which detract from that rating. A small piece of burgundy colored binding tape adhered to a small tear in the lower portion of the recessed area of the front cover hinge and in another in a similar small tear in the back cover hinge. The binding tape mend adds structural support and prevents further tearing but is noticeable primarily because the color does not perfectly match the cover cloth. Other cover cloth wear consists of edge scuffs and mildly bumped corners along with crimping and slight chipping of the unsupported cloth at the extreme top and bottom of the spine edges. The only markings in the book are the notes on the front end page as detailed in the just above paragraph. Pages are very slightly age toned. Page 291 in the book has an about one and one-quarter inch long upward tear from near the mid point of the bottom edge of the page. This tear is closed and appears to have been sealed with very lightly applied glue though there is no visible sign of the adhesive. There are no other page tears. There are no missing, loose or creased pages. Payment via Paypal. Books will be shipped in hardboard packages and generally most economically via media mail.
