This is a vintage H. Gerstner & Sons Dayton Ohio wood machinists case chest - 7 drawers with green felt lining (condition, see photos) and drawer bottoms are galvanized steel. Leather handle is somewhat dry-rotted (?) but still solid. Overall the wood is in, what I would consider, very good condition (see photos for minor flaw in one spot on the lid) - there are minor scratches and some patina but all one would have to do is give it a good scrub and replace the felt lin...ings and you would have a beautiful piece. Opens and closes fine - latches work well. No key and the mirror is cracked but no damage to wood or hardware. Measures 20"W x 8 1/2"D x 12"H (not including handle). It seems pretty clear by the lack of dings and scrapes that this fine example of American craftsmanship proudly set on a bench for the length of the original owners career as is perhaps evidenced by the 1x4 area of pristine exposed oak on the lid .
