Vintage 82 x 80 inch handmade Mariners Compass quilt beautifully hand quilted and pieced I think with machine stitched binding. but the rest is hand sewn. Color is cream with old reds and brown prints..and a mustard and tan double facing for each block. A striking visual piece. very light batting . Fair warning, the compass stars are worn in all of the star blocks. Worn right through. Because the batting is the similar cream color, it doesn't show too much on display from a... distance. This is a summer quilt or for warmer of climes...anyway. a beautiful piece of history, 3 three cheers for the women who made these beautiful pieces of art...I have no documentation of the provenance but it looks like possibly 1930s...Verydifferent and charming country quilt! The beauty ofhandmade items is that they are not production perfect…those who love handmadeitems know the value is in the relationship the owner has to the work of art, not in mechanical perfection.
