Thisis a very nice antique watch from a local estate. It measures 48mm in diameter(outer Case). The watch is in a plain silver pair case. The movement has squarepillars, verge fusee, pierced balance cock, signed “Cha’ Bifield 4787 LONDON”. Themovement is in very good condition, and runs. The white porcelain dial isoriginal. It does have an edge chip at the bottom. Nice early hands. The outerpair case has no marks whatsoever. The inner case has 2 marks visible that arerubbed and h...ard to read. I can see the lion silver standard, and the other marklooks like the crowned leopard head. There is also a case makers mark thatlooks like an “HT” to me. The 3-lobed outline of the 2 visible hallmarks is ofthe style used from 1739-1755, so I will date this watch circa 1750. The outercase has some side dents from normal age and use. It has a good strong caselock spring. The watch has a plastic replacement crystal. A key is included.Bifield is a listed watchmaker, and this is certainly the earliest example ofhis work that I have been able to find. Buyer pays shipping, $12 in USA. Thankyou.
