Original Description:
This 1960's figure of polished hand carved dark dense wood (with white glass bead eyes) was purchased at an Ohio fair in the late 1960's and remains in good condition.  Carved by the Nyamwezi of Tanzania, these elongate figures are reminiscent of the sculptures of Giacometti, who was almost certainly inspired by them.  Carved in male/female pairs, they were used in water divination rituals and this guy appears to have seen some use as his base has a slightly battered look, &n...bsp; There is an old glue repair where one hand rests on his waist and the overall surface is dry with pleasing hand polishing.  The figure measures 62 1/2" tall x 2 1/4" x 1 3/4" overall.
