BEAUTIFUL ANTIQUE FRENCH SILK & LACE HANDOWORKED PORTIERE PELMET c1880
Dating from the late 1800s this is a beautiful antique French hand-worked silk and lace portiere pelmet. Perfect to dress any window or doorway it is a hand made confection that is wonderfully preserved. A mix of handworked silk lace panels each with a central cartouche and scrolls and curls along with silk brocade panels with a block line strip...e. The lace is old cream and the silk is caramel and primrose with very fine green edging. The bottom and two side edges are trimmed with serpentine passementerie fringe and braid. The backing is saffron cotton and it is all good and strong with no repairs or wear. Measurements: Width 206cms Length 37cms There are a couple of very tiny marks ( less than 2mm) that do not detract and are lost in the design. A beautiful period textile confection for any vieille maison display. All the items in my listings, unless described otherwise, are either vintage or antique. They have all had a 'past' life, a history to tell - and this inevitably affects their condition through use and handling. I do my best to make my descriptions as accurate as possible but please do not bid if you are looking for pristine items; you will not find them in my auctions!
