This is a very stylish and substantial Sterling Silver Capstan Inkwell.
I have not seen one before with this stylish pie crust design around the edge of the base and the lid.
sadly the hallmarks have been polished away, apart from inside the lid where there is the Sterling mark, and the Birmingham date letter v for 1920. Very good antique condition with just light scratches and minor dings around the edge of the base, and one minor ding to the lid. The well is miss...ing from the inside. The hinge is nice and tight. the hallmarks have sadly been polished into oblivion although you can still see a faint outline, and there is a date mark and sterling mark to the lid. The inkwell is 114 mm in diameter and weighs 328 g, but bear in mind the base is quite a heavy fabric covered alloy so I don't know how much of the weight is silver content.
