OBVERSE – The upper half of the obverse - read from top to bottom - depictsthe Chinese or Japanese characters "Mitsu Tsugu, " which was thename of the head official of the gold mint. The big mark in the lower halfshows the signature of this gentleman.
REVERSE – Two flow...ers of the imperial paulownia (Latin: Paulownia imperialis)(Chrysanthemum). In the middle, two characters indicate the value ni (=two) bu. It is written from right to left, although from left to righttoday.
