RARE 1/9 PLATE TINTYPE - CIVIL WAR LADY HOLDING CASE - IN MINT CONDITION UNION CASE - BERG 1-141 - "ANGEL HOLDING CORNUCOPIA" - You are viewing a beautiful portrait of an attractive young lady most likely from the time of the Civil War who is captured holding what appears to be a sixth plate thermoplastic case. Her stunning portrait is contained in its own Union case entitled, "Angel Holding Cornucopia #2" which can be seen in Paul Berg's bible on 19th Century Photographic Cases. The c...ase is listed as, Scarce to find and valued in this superb condition at $125.00 without an image. The lady in this ninth plate wore a gorgeous patterned dress, a snood in her hair and some fine jewelry which has been hand gilded after the tintype was processed. I particularly love the fact that the young lady holds a similar case than the one her portrait resides inside. The spectacular tintype and an amazing case would display beautifully in any collection of antique photography. Good luck to all my fellow case and hard plate collectors winning this superb example.
CONDITION: Please view my detailed photos for the actual condition of the image and as part of my description. The ninth plate contains excellent contrast, tonal range and sharpness. Nice tinting was applied to her jewelry. The thermoplastic case with beautiful motifs on the front and back is in mint condition with no chips or cracks. The case retains tight hinges, the working clasp system and a luscious maroon velvet pillow.
