One Antique French Linen Hand Towel Monogrammed 32” wide by 45” long.. We are offering this antique cotton linen hand monogrammed hand towel. It is in excellent condition no stains or marks. It has been pressed and are ready for use. The towel is made from a fine light weight linen fabric with a monogram in the middle bottom and ladder work edge. In the corner is a very sweet little red initial Crosstitched “GF”. It should be easy to clean and keep. The edges and monogram are h...and sewn and we’re clearly made with a lot of pride. A little bit of historical information. Originally this towel would have been part of a dowery most likely. It was handstitched there is not a machine that was involved in the finishing of this towel. Originally it was used as a bath towel. They did not have the fluffy terrycloth things that we call towels today instead they use these quite absorbent lightweight easy to wash and easy to dry linen body towels. Actually they’re quite effective for that use. In the winter the days are short in the Alps and so there was much time in the evening for sewing by candle or lamplight.
