1880s Asia Photo Album Japan China Tea Opium Merchant 8 Large Albumen Photographs
Albumen Photographs are 11 by 8.25 inches.
Album size is 15 by 12 inches.
I believe these are from the 1880s from a Western European merchant who is residing in Japan or China. Obviously appears Japanese influenced as the album cover has silk cover of Japanese origin so could be a Westerner living very well in Japan or China at that time. Living well is a very good word for it ...as the contents of these albumen's show an abundance of wealth and antiquities within these photos. Especially the last photograph albumen shown above.
First photograph shows exterior of the house and the rest the interior of the house. The windows are the same and do match the curtains in the interior photos.
All the photographs (albumens) are well shot and well focused. One Photograph shows a Western man with a lady (possibly his wife) with her face etched from the albumen photograph so she is not identifiable.
The album is in poor shape but the Photographs are in excellent condition with great detail and contrast. They are mounted on paper that is very brittle at the edges. The Cover "Photo", I did not include in the total as I am unsure if it is a photograph or a print.
