... 1914 National Railways of Mexico - Ferrocarriles Nacional de México gold bond
The National Railways of Mexico (NdM), in Spanish "Ferrocarril Nacional de México", was one of the primary pre-nationalization railways of Mexico. Incorporated in Colorado in 1880 as the Mexican National Railway and affiliated with the Denver & Rio Grande Railway, it completed a narrow-gauge main line from Mexico City to Laredo in September 1888. The company was reincorporated again in Utah in 1902 as the National Railroad of Mexico, and completed a standard-gauge main line in 1903. The NdM subsequently acquired three narrow gauge companies in central Mexico. Following privatization in the 1990s, the NdM formed the majority of "Transportacion Ferroviaria Mexicana", now the Kansas City Southern de Mexico. For auction is a "6% Secured Gold Note" from the NdM dated April 1, 1914. It was for $10.00 and was due January 1, 1917. Embossed in the upper right corner is a prepaid Austrian revenue stamp. The back side is blank. This bond measures appx 11 x 8 1/4 inches and is printed on a medium-grade paperstock. It is in very good condition, in spite of being over 100 years old. All writing/markings are from its issuance and processing. There is a small 1/4 inch fold tear on the right margin.
