The Canteen Cover is stenciled 1 above Crossed Rifles with an A underneath, representing the 1st Infantry Division, Company A of the U.S. Army. There is a large U.S. in the center, under which is a 20 and a hard to read R.I.A. 1903 (Rock Island Arsenal). Attached is a 1903 V-Shape Sling with no visible markings. All three of its hooks have spring snaps. Condition: There is considerable usage wear and stains. There is a 1 1/2 inch long separation in the si...de stitching of the cover and part of the back side of the cover is worn through. The metal parts of the stopper and canteen mouth are slightly bent from their original shape. The metal canteen body looks undented. There is rust on the two triangle carrier loops and the spring clips. I have made no attempt to clean this piece and there are no repaired or missing parts.
