Spanish American War USS Maine Commemorative Wall Plaque With Mirror
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:283888 |
This is an antique wall plaque with mirror commemorating the USS Maine’s part in the initiation of the Spanish American War in 1898.
In the top corner are two male figures, one in a sailor’s uniform with a canon and shells and the other figure is an Army man with stacked rifles in teepee shape. Under them it reads “Our boys of ‘98”.
...>The second corner is a portrait of Commodore Schley, in command of the Flying Squadron, with the USS Brooklyn as his flagship.
The third corner depicts the USS Maine that sank in Havana Harbor, initiating US involvement in Cuba.
The last corner is a portrait of George Dewey, who was Admiral of the Navy in 1898.
I think it is copper on wood and would clean up nicely. The mirror has rough edges and a number of spots. See pictures for details.
Excellent buy for the Span-Am War collector.
