1789 George Washington Inauguration coat button with George Washington's initials, ''GW'' at center and ''Long Live the President'' encircling the rim. Measures 1.3125'' in diameter. Repaired shank on reverse (most are missing shank completely). Light wear on letters with great even color. Much nicer than usually seen . Highlighted in Alberts' ''Record of American Uniform and Historical Buttons'' as well as DeWitt's ''A Century of Campaign Buttons 1789-1889'' as an important exampl...e of American campaign buttons. Included is the original auction flip from the Superior Galleries sale that I purchased it from.
