This is a set of four framed art deco reverse painted silhouettes of nymph-like children in seasonal poses by German illustrator Hugo Reinhold Karl Johann Hoppener (1868-1948), better known by the pseudonym "Fidus". He was a symbolist artist whose work directly influenced the psychedelic style of graphic design of the late 1960's. These were produced by Tallimit Art Pictures in the 1940's and sold through C&A Richards, Boston, MA.
Each framed silhouette measures 7"x3"; t...hree have easel backs and one has a hanging ring. All reverse glass images are in excellent condition; the frame on "Spring" is missing some gesso relief; some discoloration to the gilt along the bottom edge of "Autumn"; some gesso loss to lower left corner on "Summer".
