NICE VTG OR ANTIQUE WILLCOX & GIBBS PORTABLE SEWING MACHINE W/ CASE & EXTRAS!. I believe you would be very hard pressed to find one of these as complete and in better condition.
Great old sewing machine for your buying consideration. First of all, this case is in excellent condition. The latch in front still works, and the original handle on top is still very solid too. It has the brass protective plates on all of the corners. The last patent year on this sewing machin...e is 1894 on the chromed plate by the needle.What a great sewing machine! It works as well as any new machine, and the speed can be reduced and sped up with the foot pedal control. The cords are older, but the cords and plugs are in great shape.This older sewing machine has a mechanical arm which drives the sewing action. There is some wear on the stenciling on the front side, but it is still all there. This probably occurred because the arm is the easiest place to lift the machine out of the case, so it was probably worn by hand oils. The stenciling on the back still looks great. Simply a clean machine all around with only minimal signs of wear and age. The foot pedal probably has the most wear, which isn't a surprise due to being on the floor at times. You will not see older ones in this nice condition come along very often. The foot control pedal is with it and has that great "WG" emblem on the foot pad.
The motor is Type AD 110 Volts - DC - AC 0 - 70 Cycles made by Westinghouse. I have not serviced or cleaned this machine at all. I am not a sewing expert, and I can't claim that the machine will still operate completely, wind string onto the bobbin, etc... However, I assume it would work well because everything is in such great shape. I'm sure that any flaws in operation could be repaired by a qualified person.The case is approximately 23.5" long by 12" tall, by 7.75" wide. The sewing machine is around 16.5" long, by 9.5" tall, by 6" wide. This machine also comes with the original paperwork, attachments, and several extras! Amazingly, the price of this outfit was only $3.00 when purchased new. It has certainly appreciated in value.
