Jay McEvers was born in 1947 and lives in Vergas, MN. He has won many awards for his fish decoys, including World Champion in the Folk Art division in 2000, and 3 national folk art titles at John Jenson's “The Gathering”. He is known for his totem decoys and fish with metal jeweled fins. He stamps his decoys with a J in the lead on the bottom of the fish.
This decoys is not base painted, which allows the beauty of the wood grain to shine though. &n...bsp;The mouth, gills, scales and tail detail are all burned into the wood. Then paint is added within the burned-in details, giving it an inlay look. The fins are copper. The decoy is weighted and could be used to spear. It is stamped with a J in the lead and also signed by the carver.
