Oberammergau Large 12. 5 " Hand Carved Wood Plaque Daily Bread Board Praying Hands

This is a beautifully hand carved vintage Oberammergau, Germany bread board/bread serving platter with a highly skilled carving based on Albrecht Durer's famous "praying hands" drawing and the text "Give Us This Day Our Daily Bread" in German--the words of the Lord's Prayer or Our Father. It's in very good attractive vintage condition with minor scuffs and scratches. Totally hand made, not made on a computer controlled carving machine (like some of today's woodcarvings...) nor is it a ...resin copy. This would be fully equally suitable for a Protestant/Evangelical or Catholic home. Durer's "praying hands" image is embraced equally by Christians of different ecclesial affiliations. Oberammergau is a Bavarian village which hosts a famous large scale play of Our Lord's Passion every ten years FOR CENTURIES which Christians from around the world make pilgrimages to see, and they have long been makers of very fine Christian woodcarvings. This is 12.5" diameter. It has no hanger on the back to put it on the wall since it's a bread plate. It would be easy to add a glue-on hanger if you want to display it on the wall--this is not very heavy.
I got this from the thrift store, and I speculate that it probably belonged to a family of German origin rather than being a tourist item. In the 19th and early 20th century there were a substantial amount of German immigrants to my area, both Catholics and Lutherans. The Catholic parish church a block from my home was built in the mid 19th century by German immigrant families. There are also all sorts of Lutheran churches around. So I like to think that this bread plate, which may likely be from any time in the earlier to mid 20th century, belonged to one of those families. It's a very dignified piece which I will be glad for someone to once again enjoy in their home.
