Pair of rare and wonderful antique (19th century) French paper shades .. for lamps or chandeliers. Four-sided, each features (2) portraits of French mademoiselles (originally published in 1781), wearing fashionable millinery. Entitled: "Chap...eau a la St. Leger", "Chapeau a la Brilliant Court", "Coeffure a la Locadie", and "Chapeau a la Brunette Anglaise". Wreaths of laurel leaves on the other sides. Delicately hand colored, and embellished with silver and gold sequins, hand-stitched to the shades. The top diameter is apx 2"; the bottom diameter is apx 5 1/2"; apx 3 3/8" high. Marked "Depos é". Both are in amazingly good, well-preserved condition, showing only minor signs of age or use. Enlarge photos for detail
