This is a Stanley # 71 Open Throat Route Plane type 10, 1925 - 1938. Plane is in extremely fine original condition !! No rust, pits, chips, or cracks. It has a beautiful aged patina. See photos. It has the larger block lettering with NO., 71, MADE, and IN U.S.A. on base. STANLEY in notched rectangle on bridge. No patent dates. ( eliminated in 1925 ) Base has mounting holes drilled and flats provided for a wooden base, and the bridge over the throat added. ( patent # 865, 560, Sept. 10,... 1907 issued to George H Bartlett ). Sole is flat, ( grooves  added in 1939 for fence ) with screw holes for a wooden base. ( added in 1908 ). Original Maple knobs have been lightly cleaned along with the rest of the plane. Some knobs during this period are known to have been painted Black. Comes with a full length 1/2" cutter, original depth rod, and depth stop foot. Entire plane is original and was only cleaned and given a protective coat of curator's wax that will keep it from rusting or smudging. This is an excellent example of art, craftsmanship, and function coming together !! It is a collector quality piece for display, decor addition, or shop use. It would be a great conversation piece just sitting on one's desk or coffee table. You can't get much better than this one, for being over 90 years old, without having the box !!
