Cabinet Card Captain Montraville Green

Up for auction is a cabinet card portrait of Capt. Montraville Green, who was a well known steamboat man who worked on numerous steamboats that operated on the Upper Mississippi River. On the back of the cabinet card is a list of some of the steamboats he was master on, not to mention other packet boats not listed, including the Gem City. Some of the other steamboats listed are the Golden Era, Jennie Deans, Red Wing, City of Alton, Danube, St Nichols, Sparhawk, Metropolitan..., Vixen, which was a towboat owned by the Corps of Engineers and renamed Henry Bosse etc. For those who collect steamboat material having a original photo of a well known and well respected steamboat master is a must. The photograph was taken by Wiseman Photography, 208 West 3D St, Alton IL. as you will note in the photo's on the back is written in pencil some of the names of the steamboats he was pilot/master of. Condition is very good, some staining but not on the actual image, it appears at one time may have been mounted in a scrap book. Card size is 9x7 with image size 5 1/4 x 3 3/4. Sold as is and be a great addition to a museum or private collection.
