The medal is correctly named as follows:
18365 O. R. SGT. G. H. BONYNGE. R. A.
Orderly Room Sergeant George... Henry Bonynge was born on 30th December 1863 in Gibraltar.
By 1871 he was living in Brompton, Kent.
In 1876, aged 12 years and 10 months, he joined the Royal Artillery as a trumpeter and trained at Curragh Camp in Ireland.
He served with the Royal Artillery for nearly 37 years, being awarded this Long Service and Good Conduct Medal in 1895.
This was his only medal during his entire service.
He was married and had 9 children and lived for many years at the Woolwich Barracks in London.
At the commencement of the First World War, he re-joined the army on 13th November 1914 aged 50 and served until 1917 as the Battery Quarter Master Sergeant at Dover Castle. He did not receive any First World War Medals having not served abroad.
His service papers survive - copies of some of the pages shown above.
The medal is in very good condition.
