In 1927, after the New York Yankees won the World Series by sweeping the Pirates, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig went on a three-week Barnstorming "Home Run Tour" throughout America. Babe Ruth had just hit 60 home runs during the 1927 season, setting a record. On October 18, 1927, the Barnstorming Tour stopp...ed in Sioux City, Iowa. The Bustin' Babes took on the Larrupin Lous' at Sioux City Stockyards Ballpark, fielded by two teams from local town ballplayers. Babe Jenny, who played and worked for the Sioux City Stockyards was on Bustin' Babes team and pitched to Lou Gehrig that day. See the team photo - Babe Jenny (drafted by the St Louis Cardinals) is in the lower left corner with Babe Ruth and team. During the game, Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig signed an authentic 1927 Official American League baseball and tossed it to Babe Jenny's wife. The baseball has been passed down just one generation within the family to Babe Jenny's grandson and also has a few extra signatures on it including Dazzy Vance, Bert Blyleven and Ron Perranoski as detailed in the Beckett Letter of Authenticity #A41107 which is available online to review and 100% authentic. The 1927 baseball has been stored out of sunlight and in a locked safe since the late 1970s and is in remarkable shape.
