VINTAGE GILT CAST IRON OWL INKWELL & TRAY # 4536 Or is it brass? late 1800's?. Condition is Used.
Welcome! This item is up for auction and is a real piece of history. I am not sure what the material is. Originally, I thought brass, but I have found it online that it is cast iron with gilt. The head of the owl lifts on hinges in the back to reveal the place where the actual ink well would be. The head is also a silver tone (gilt?) The wings and... talons of the tray are a gold color (gilt or brass?) There is a number on the underside of the tray 4536. If you have questions please ask.
