Paia - Hospital. (Plantation Hospital) Brand New- only dirt.
Great ephemeral image. Offered are the last few of our collection of printed Ray Jerome Baker Postcards- Maui style! We suppose these were published and sold at the Plantation and local Drug stores on Maui- and that in fact, Maui was the only place where you could buy them. Printed cards as opposed to Real Photo postcards were ordered to be affordable to those on a limited budget. We guess the original store order... placed would have been quite limited in number.
We purchased our grouping from a long time collector. About 4-5 were postmarked- all from Maui, dating about 1913-15 ish. These photographs may be RJB's first paid work in Hawaii- occurring several years before he moved his studio & home from California to Honolulu.
Some of these same Maui images were also printed in a RPPC format. We think the printed cards would actually be more scarce than the RPPC. Additionally, because they are somewhat informal, we imagine very few were saved.
Mailed - dates to 1915.
