Robert Emig Products was incorporated as a business on December 20, 1956. Their main offices, showroom and factory were located in Reading, PA. According to Trivetology.com, "Emig sold cast iron Inn signs, firemarks, planters, wall and table accessories, bookends, desk and smoking accessories, switchplates, clocks, patio and fireside accessori...es, lamps, brackets and hooks, toys, mirrors, candleholders, kitchen and bath accessories, decorative American eagles … and trivets!"
This piece dates from 1986. Compared to a vintage brand like the ubiquitous Griswold cornstick pan, cornsticks baked in the Emig pan will be 50% larger! Griswold cornstick pans are about 52 ml, while the Emig is 78 ml. Add to that the very modern design of the Emig cornsticks and you've got something very special.
RESTORATION: This pan was stripped to bare metal with lye and electrolysis (see last photo). This process eliminates any residue that has accumulated on the pan, ensuring that you start with a completely clean cooking surface. It was scrubbed with steel scouring pads, steel wool, "magic" erasers, and a lot of elbow grease. It was seasoned with four layers of vegetable shortening polymerized to the iron at 500º for 90 minutes each. This gives your cookware a durable "non-stick" surface that is dry and displays beautifully. It is ready to use as soon as you unpack it and give it a brief rinse, and a little soap won't hurt it.
CONDITION: This cornstick pan is in excellent used condition, with no cracks, warping, damage, or repairs that I can see. There are a couple of dings you'll see in the photos, but nothing especially notable. The design is what catches your eye initially since we've been looking at the Griswold and Wagner and BSR and Lodge cornstick pans for years, and they are all essentially the same. Not this one, and your family and friends will notice the difference. The pan seasoned to a rich, dark black, and it will continue to get darker as you use it. The casting is very fine with deeply sculpted cornsticks. It has a significant wobble that takes 4–5 business cards to correct, but since this is solely intended for use in the oven, the wobble likely won't affect your use of the pan. Make sure to enlarge the photos and have a close look at what you will be getting.
MEASUREMENTS: This pan measures approximately 11½" long, 5¾” wide, 1¼ ” deep and it weighs 4 lb. 9 oz. COMMENTS: This unusual cornstick pan would be a great addition to your cast iron cookware collection. Its modern design and bigger cornsticks will delight your diners. And the larger size may help prevent burning, a problem many cooks report with the smaller cornstick pans.

Some people don't care about how old a pan is, but the real difference is in the iron itself. Vintage pans are smoother, lighter, easier to move around your stove, easier to clean, and generally very satisfying because of the high level of craftsmanship embodied in the pans, since there was always a lot of handwork involved in their production.
