I believe that this is a brass latch from an old ice box door. By pulling the lever upwards move the spring loaded latch upwards. The lock mechanism does not appear to be operable. Nice ornate design. The back is marked Pat. May 16, 1899. Measures 4 1/4" tall and is 3 3/8" wide. There are three holes for mounting with screws. Would look great on any number of furniture doors etc. A neat old piece of hardware.
