This is a vintage Brown & Sharpe outside measuring mechanical micrometer / caliper that is in excellent working condition. It's range is from 0 to 1" and is graduated in 1/1000 of an inch. The sleeve is clean and easy readable, and the thimble is turning smoothly. You have noticed perhaps the shape of the anvil and the spindle. The anvil is " V " shaped with a groove, in 60 degree angle and the spindle is in conical shape. This micrometer is designe...d to measure diameter of threaded bots, screws, threaded rods and other threaded items. The anvil and the conical spindle fit into the grooves of the bolt and gives precise measurement. There are also conversion table stamped on both sides of the C frame for 1/32" and 1/64" in decimals. Please keep in mind that this tool is perhaps 80 - 90 yrs old, but is still giving precise and accurate readings. There is no rust or names engraved. Thank you
