I believe this is a nice early-20th-Century Jena Sonnar 40mm 1:2.8 lens for Bell & Howell 16mm Filmo cameras. The glass appears to be clear and unscratched, and the ring for manually adjusting its 8-blade aperture from f:2.8 to 16 works easily and smoothly. The lens focuses down to 1.6 feet, and the barrel sports a helpful hyperfocal DoF scale. Interestingly, Bell & Howell has been credited with originating the standard C-mount used on 16mm movie cameras...&nb...sp; and the Filmo mount was a first step in that direction. The fourth photo shows the mount. It seems to be a hair wider than C, and instead of threads, it has a couple pairs of ridges on opposite sides of the barrel. It might be interesting to adapt this for use on a smaller digital camera... like a Micro Four Thirds (including possibly the Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera), a Nikon 1 or a Pentax Q. And there also seems to be a direct adapter here on eBay for connecting this lens to film or digital C-mount cameras-- search for: Adapter 5/8" (B&H Filmo) to C-Mount .
