Don "Big D" Drysdale (1936-1993) was a right-handed pitcher, and pitched 14 seasons in the majors for the Bro./LA Dodgers (1956-1969). He was inducted into the HOF in 1984. From the early to mid 60's, he and team-mate left-hander, and future HOFer "Sandy" Koufax were the best righty-lefty combo starters in the majors. Drysdale appeared in 518 games, with a record of 209-166, 49 shut-outs, 6 saves, a 2.95 ERA, and hit .186, with 29 HRs, and 113 RBIs. He was a 6-time All-Star, had 7 seas...ons of 15 wins or more, and led the league 3-times in strike-outs. He also led the league 4-times in games started, and 4-times in hit batsman. In 1962, he was the N.L. Cy Young Award winner, 5th in MVP, and an All-Star, with a league leading and career best 25-9 record, 314.1 innings pitched, and league leading 232 strike-outs, and in 1965, was 23-12, leading the league with 42 games started, 12 hit batsman, had 7 shut-outs, and hit .300, with 7 HRs, and 19 RBIs. In 1968, Drysdale set a record by pitching 6 consecutive shut-outs, pitching 8 for the season, and pitched 58 consecutive scoreless innings, later broken by Orel Hershiser. He pitched in 5 W.S., with a record of 3-3, and a 2.95 ERA, and after his playing days, was TV broadcaster for the White Sox (1982-1987), and Dodgers (1988-1993). Drysdale was found dead in his room in Montreal, Canada on 7-3-93 as he was there for a game between the Dodgers & Expos. He died of a heart attack at age 56. His wife was HOF Woman's basketball player Ann Myers.
