Original Description:
Nice antique New England block plane made in New Haven, CT by Hermon Chapin (1799-1866) under the Union Factory mark. Chapin operated under this Union Factory name between 1828 and 1850. He was arguably one of the most important plane makers in the U.S. in the early 19th century. 
The plane is in very good condition. The front of the plane has the legible but somewhat faded maker's stamp  ("Union Factory" then  "Warranted" then "H. Chapin"),   a number "11" stamp..., and a pair of crossed arrows. No other marks on the plane body. 
The iron is marked "Baldwin Tool Co. Made From Butchers Cast Steel." The Baldwin Tool Company operated in Middletown, CT between 1836 and 1860.
