Vintage Exceptional Trippensee Planetarium Complete, Working, All Original. Up for bid is a very early fully functional Planetarium in very fine condition. This is a model used in schools and universities to show, when the handle is turned, how the earth moves around the sun and the motions of the moon and Venus. The mechanism shows the earth's elliptical orbit around the sun and, because of the tilt of the earth on its axis, shows the reason we have the four seasons summer... through spring, the fact that the daylight days are shorter in the winter and many other natural phenomena. The moon rotates around the earth showing the phases of the moon and the origin of eclipses. The various parts are operated by chains and gears which are all original and operate smoothly. The earth is in mint condition with no stains, tears, or defaced areas. On the terrestrial glode it is stated (see photos) "Rand McNally and Co., New 3-inch Terrestrial Glode, Copyright 1891". The brass logo on the arm is near perfect and clearly shows the date as 1908 (see photos). The sun is near perfect and has not been buffed because I really like nice vintage items to be original whenever possible. The compass is erratic which is typical. See photographs for condition which is exceptional. Everything works easily and correctly. The earth spins smoothly on its axis when the handle under the arm turns the mechanism. No jerking or erratic motion takes place. Obivously, this Trippensee has been coveted and well cared for over more than the last 100 years. This should hold a premium position in your collection of early scientific instruments. Thanks for looking and bidding.
