Stanley "Yankee" Bell System 2101 A 10" Hand Brace Excellent ConditionThis heavy duty "Yankee" hand brace was manufactured by the Stanley Tools following their acquisition of the North Brothers Tool Co. in Philadelphia PA. These tools were issued to Bell telephone lineman and installers before the widespread introduction of power tools. The Stanley 2101 A is one of the best heavy duty hand braces made in America. This brace is in exceptionally clean and lightly used c...ondition.The chuck on this brace was locked up due to the original grease applied, probably 60-70 years ago, had solidified and become hardened. The ratchet head and chuck have been disassembled, checked for damage, and then cleaned and properly lubricated. They now operate like a new one, solid and smooth. The ratchet selecting and reversing mechanism sounds like the tumblers on a safe when it operates. The ratchet and chuck both work as they should with a very smooth ratcheting action in either direction selected. Placing the selector in the middle position locks the chuck and stops the ratchet action. The chuck jaws are undamaged and work perfectly. Likewise the top ball bearing supported pad has been cleaned and lubricated and works like new. Other than a couple of very minor normal use marks (see pictures) this brace is in excellent well cared for condition and is a great heavy duty brace.(see all pictures) The top pad and side handle are in excellent condition with very few signs of having been used (see pictures) This brace will work with the older square shank auger bits and with modern round bits. This brace appears to have been very likely stored for the majority of its existence and is one of the nicest I have seen in some time. If you will put two or three drops of oil in the oil ports once a year or so, this brace will still be working for another 70 years. A great manual tool that you can use when the lights go out. This brace's chuck will work with older square shank bits as well as modern round bits.
