Superb mid 19thc highly gothic mahogany panel carving. Dating c.1860.Excellent attention to carved detail on this very fine gothic panel. The panel is intricately carved throughout and in good relief. To the top is a winged male angel - a dark angel by facial expression - with laurel wreath around head. Below is the carved head of a female with wild hair. Swag beneath head and a scallop shell above head. This head sits within an intricately carved n...iche with domed roof and symmetric columns, each of which is decorated with an angel wing. To lower part of panel are intricate scrolled detail and another scallop. Fine quality carved panel.The carving measures some 10" width x 20" height.Condition is excellent and age commensurate.
