Original Description:
Please be sure to review all my other auctions after you have looked at this one!  I will be listing a broad and diverse range of vintage communications and technology items, related books, periodicals and ephemera...  Something for everyone!I am reluctant to sell this radio at the moment, but my laziness is your great opportunity! Often cited as the best receiver of the 1920's, here you have the opportunity to own the magnificent Federal Type 61 receiver, flagship of the Fed...eral Telephone & Telegraph Company.  This is a Federal Type 61 Receiver with Serial No. A8605.
I got this radio at a recent estate clearance for a deceased ham.  It is "as found" the only thing I have done is to spend some time cleaning the cabinet.
My quick evaluation is this is a great radio for a modest effort of restoration!  The previous owner started to do things, but never finished.  The cabinet has the normal dings expected for an item this old, mostly to the base area.  A little elbow grease and attention will make this cabinet just great!
Internally, everything looks pretty good.  The audio transformers both show the proper continuity, although one is a replacement. You can see that this was done some time ago based on how it was done. Up to you to replace...  Some of the wiring is brittle, but not unusual for such an item!  If you find other things I missed, let me know as I have a spare panel with most components!  Glad to help!
All the tubes have good filaments!  There are a couple of replacement screws in the top lid hinge on the right...
The front panel needs to be cleaned but will look great!  I modestly rubbed a cloth on an area on the front panel so that you can see how great it will look!  Look to the middle right in the photos...it will look marvelous after your efforts!  There are some replacement screws holding the panel to the set, and there is one panel bracket missing inside that accepts one of the panel screws.
Don't know what else to say other than this is a great opportunity for someone looking for a Federal Type 61.  A little effort on your part will afford you a flagship receiver worth well over $1K! I have tried to take good photographs, and they represent the condition accurately! If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask...If you are a collector of Federal receivers or early 1920's radios, this is a good candidate, with a little TLC, to sit on your shelf!Properly packaged to arrive safely at your door, this parcel will weigh about 45 pounds. I will pack all items properly and with great care.  I have been shipping these kind of vintage items worldwide since the late 1980's.  Buyers are responsible for shipping, insurance and material costs, and any applicable duties.  I usually can ship within one business day after receipt of confirmed payment.  International customers bid with confidence! International shipping is not an issue!.  .If you are new to eBay with no prior feedback please contact me prior to bidding...thanks! THANK YOU FOR LOOKING!
