Amiga 500 GVP Impact Series II A500 - HD, SCSI Hard Drive W/ RAM Box
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:29854728 | Model: Amiga 500 |
Brand: GVP | Vintage: Yes |
For use with the Amiga 500 side expansion port.
This peripheral from GVP is considered by many as one of the greatest single original upgrades for the A500 computer. If you want to be time period correct, this case-matching expansion is the ticket.
As for this particular specimen, it looks virtually unused and like it fell out of a time door from 1991.
With my Amiga 500 (not for sale) with Kickstart 1.3, this hard drive fired right up and auto-booted. Workben...ch reported 2.5MB RAM, which makes me think the GVP machine probably has 2MB installed. Note that it can take as much as 8MB total.
When I first received this device, I had issues with it booting. After opening it up and reseating the RAM I had no issues. If you buy this, know that things can jiggle in the mail sometimes and you might have to do what I did.
When I last plugged it in it fired right up and worked beautifully. However, due to the age of the device - plus the fact that it contains a mechanical spinning hard drive 29 years old - I can’t 100% guarantee the the drive will work after being shipped. But if I were to keep this device, frankly I’d upgrade it with a SCSI2SD card and pop a little SD card in there which creates no heat, no noise and has almost zero power draw. But that’s just me.
