... initial">items from the estate of the late Keku Atkins, a native of China who married Mr. Allan Atkins, Manager of the first 7up Distributorship in China in the 1950s. It is a 7-1/2 x 3-1/4 x 1-1/2 hand chased, pewter, dresser box, with a removable, two sectioned, formed, insert. There is a mirror set in the inside of the hinged, elongated oval lid. In the picture I have covered
it with white paper in order to omit reflections. The top of the lid bears a Phoenix Bird and floral decoration and the outside perimeter in stippled and floral décor beautifully hand executed. The overall appearance is that of some kind of musical stringed instrument. Our supposition is that it is a dresser vanity piece suitable for M Ladies small jewelry items? We have been told that by the markings it appears to be a rather fine and unusual pewter item from SWATOW (Shantou) China, internationally known for it's Pewter manufacturing.
