THE LION’S PAW Robb White Vintage Edition VHTF SIGNED Inscribed HC RARE DJ
Item History & Price
At auction: a rare, very hard-to-find, signed copy of THE LION’S PAW, by ROBB WHITE.Published by Doubleday & Company; Garden City, NY. This is not a first edition. Research indicates instead that it may be an early printing from 1967. A private “antiquarian” book store has a listing of all the author’s titles. The 1967 edition, the last one published by Doubleday, matches the book at auction: green cloth boards, with (a rarely seen) dust jacket, showing an illustration of a boy... with seagulls. There is a sailboat & a tomato red sun in the background. Back jacket has a larger illustration of a dark red sun, with seagulls flying over it. 10 black and white illustrations, by Ralph Ray, who illustrated the original edition, scattered throughout the book. This book is inscribed to a previous owner and is signed and dated by the author on the first blank page. Mr. White passed away in 1990. His signature is extremely hard to find, but I was able to turn up two examples. They appear to be identical to the signature in this book.Condition is good overall. Please see all 12 of my photos to aid in your buying decision. Issues noted: Dust jacket - two tears at the top spine, front and back - 1 1/4 in and 1 in, plus another 1/4 inch tear at the front bottom fold. Numerous other small, open tears along the edges and the folds. Jacket price clipped. Light soiling. Jacket has been cleaned.Book - slight spine lean. Boards show minor signs of fraying at edges and corners. Pages naturally age tanned. One page corner previously turned down. Small pen mark on side page ends. Light soiling on page ends. Previous owner (to whom the book is inscribed) has taken one early (otherwise blank) page for some major scribbling. Inscription is on the opposite (otherwise blank) page. No other marks, or any stamps, in the book. Binding is tight. Thanks for looking at my auction. Feel free to email me with questions.Book will be insured & shipped in a box, via USPS.
