The S.S. Finlandpictured on this real photo postcard was built in 1902 as an American-flagged ocean liner for the Red Star Line; eventually sailing out of New York for the American Line. In 1912 the ship took the U.S. Team to the Stockholm Summer Olympics. During World War I the FInland served as a transport vessel for the U.S. Navy as USS Finland (ID-4543) and also for the U.S. Army as USAT Finland. The Finland carried many thousands of U.S. soldiers on numero...us dangerous crossings to France during the war under threat of German U-boat attack.
