Scarce tripod in great condition. Nothing is broken or bent, all set screws funtion, brass extention all pull out as they should. Legs are 15" (33.5" fully extended)
Little of the black paint is coming of to reveal the brass underneath on the legs, but not too bad..
Overall, very nice piece of Americana and surveying equipment in general.
In 1894, Brunton invented the pocket transit, and had it manufactured in Denver. The pocket transit was very popular, as it was easy to tran...sport on horseback, and was rugged and well made. This tripod would have been manufactured around that time period, although I can't find any record of actual age. The casting and the all brass construction for the legs fits the period.
