The ONLY DIFFERENCE I can see between the MFJ-962B and MFJ-962C tuners is that they ADDED the Peak/Average selector button on the later MFJ-962C model. Frankly speaking...I have owned, repaired, modified and even restored a HELLUVA LOT OF HF RADIO GEAR in the last 30 years of my life....and i have NEVER SEEN ANY MFJ TUNER OR METER that showed any real difference when switching that selector button between the PEAK and AVERAGE power modes. Just a useless additional button with a very primitive and quite useless additional circuit if you ask me. Compare them for yourself if you ever get the chance and you will SEE exactly what I mean. Seeing is believing!!I received this old tuner with a smashed cross-reading SWR/Powermeter. So I ordered a replacement meter assembly directly from MFJ for over $30, then installed it and re-calibrated the new illuminated meter up against aborrowed lab grade Bird meter. Power ranges on the watt meter are 30W/300W. It only needed very slight tweaking afterreplacing the meter and I think these older MFJ tuners are much better madethan most of the stuff they are making now. This unit works great….but lessthan perfect cosmetics. As you can see, the case cover could use a new paintjob and the knobs should be removed for a good scrubbing. But take the coveroff and the inside looks and works the same as new. Considering how easy it isto arc and burn one of the smaller modern MFJ “300 Watt rated” tuners (what ajoke of a tin can)….this older 1.5K rated tuner is built like a Sherman tankand thus a much safer choice for your beloved HF rig all day long. It is also easilytwice the size of a more modern MFJ-949D/MFJ-949E/MFJ-962D series tuner, so it willprobably cost me more to ship. Therefore, If I cannot get at least $100 for itwith FREE SHIPPING and insurance for the buyer….then I will probably just hangonto it as a spare. This is vintage electronics and therefore sold “as-is”, with absolutely no warranty or returns. Be sure to read the excellent onlinereviews on this older MFJ tuner. I am over 90% sure I have the original paper manual for this tuner. Before packing it up and shipping it, i will check BOTH locations where I keep both older and newer user manuals.
