Original Description:
Utricularia panamensis is a lithophytic Utricularia species in Section Foliosa endemic to Panama. As far as I know, it has only entered cultivation recently. The plant was originally purchased from California Carnivores. Pictures 1 and 2 show the flower of the species, while 3-6 show the clump that you will be receiving. The last picture shows the mother pot from which the division was taken. I've only seen this species available in the US from California Carnivores and I don't expect ...to have more available for several months.
As far as care goes, I give the plant highland conditions with day temperatures in the 70s and night temperatures in the low 60s. It seems to like being waterlogged. California Carnivores also grows theirs in highland conditions in what looks like waterlogged sphagnum, which is also what I am using. Since the stolons are small, I would not grow it in live sphagnum. I grow it in similar conditions to my Orchidioides Utricularia except keeping it a little wetter. The flower looks like that of a small longifolia. It does send out runners occasionally which can be used to propagate it easily, but I wouldn't call it weedy. Definitely faster than most Orchidioides though.
All in all, a very interesting and rare species for Utricularia enthusiasts.
