Diamond Edge Tools Antique Advertising Sign, circa 1918, from Shapleigh Hardware Co. in St. Louis. "Diamond Edge Is A Quality Pledge" was their slogan that the tool and cutlery company first began using in 1909. Shapleigh Hardware was a hugely successful hardware store, founded in 1843, The Great Depression of the 1930s essentially killed the store's business. This small sign, 9.5 inches by 6.25 inches, would have been something the store gave away as a promotion. The subject matter is... considered a drawing with words. Besides making signs, Diamond Edge also used color printing on its product labels to stand out from the competition. Shapleigh's Keen Cutter and Diamond Edge brand items are considered collectibles today.
