ANTIQUE WAGON WHEEL HUB*WOOD WITH METAL BANDS*13" TALL X 26" ROUND*16 LBS.*PRIMITIVE . I didn't see a way to date this exactly, they could be from the 1800's to early 1900's. I feel like they would have disintegrated if any earlier. The wood is delicate now but the cast iron bands are as strong as ever. I do know they were still using wagons in the early 1900's because my dad was a kid then and since the ranch was 18 miles from the nearest town he told me they ...went in the wagon and it as an all day trip one way. He knew how to drive a team of horses, I got to see him do this one year at a ranch rodeo. He was getting an award and was brought into the arena on a wagon with a young girl driving, the team of horses started acting up, they didn't get to town much, and my dad took the lines and was able to handle them with no problem. The horses settled down, I think they knew he had done this before and felt his confidence and expertise. It was the only time I saw him drive a team of horses and I have never forgotten it. He did tell me about doing it as a kid with a wagon and a plow. We had an old buckboard type wagon at the ranch and I wanted to save it but couldn't figure out how since a mesquite tree had grown up through it and it had lots of prickly pears (cactus) all around it. The wooden hubs were not salvageable then. I do wish now that I had at least gotten pictures of the wagon like that, they would have been really unique. I was too young then to even think of doing that and have never been a photographer, as you can tell from my pictures when I list things. I did manage to save 2 of the iron wheels and have now had them for years and years. I don't think they will be included in my downsizing right now, they would be very big, heavy and expensive to ship. It's also possible my son would actually like to have these.
