Vintage MILLERS FALLS No. 2-A Eggbeater Style Hand Crank Drill - USA Cleaned with 9 correct bits. From what I found this or a variation of it has been around for over 100 years. I think this 14 inch long drill could be from 1938 to 1957. A friend said he thought it was more likely from the 1940s due to the spokes on the red wheel. All I know is that it has been part of the family for many years and hung in a workshop on a tool board. I am not sure how the specks of gr...een paint got on the handle. I used it to polish my brass when I was in the army, then I used it to polish pivot holes in clock movements. The nice thing about this compared to a electric drill is that one has more control over the speed and where to apply pressure. I disassembled it and cleaned, oiled and applied grease as needed, then assembled. As one would expect, the operation is smooth and flawless. There is no rust or corrosion. I found little if any wear. There is no play in any of the wheels or gears and the chuck functions correctly. The wood handle holds 9 correct bits and they all seem to be in good shape with no rust. This is not a cheap knockoff but 2.4 pounds of finely made USA tool that would be very costly to reproduce today. This would be a great addition to a woodworker or just as a great conversation piece hanging on a display board but perhaps not in the living room where my friend has his tools displayed.
