Authentic antique small Catholic medal featuring iconic depiction of the Most Blessed Virgin Mary with Child Jesus as "Our Lady of Czestochowa" also known as the Black Madonna of Częstochowa, a venerated icon enshrined at the Jasna Góra Monastery in Częstochowa, Poland. The icon's name is inscribed in abbreviated Latin just above the image. The other side of the medal bears an iconic image of the Crucifixion with God the Father embracing the crucified Son from above, a symbolic repr...esentation of the last words of Jesus, "Father, into your hands I commend my spirit" (Luke 23:46). Origin likely c. 19th century. The medal appears to be made from bronze or similar copper-based alloy. The medal shows significant signs of wear typical for its old age, such as small deformations, reduced quality of images and inscriptions, superficial dents and scratches, and patches of dark patina.
